warm

This week has been crazy. The definition of crazy. Probably the craziest week I've had in a long time...(as you can probably tell from my lack of posts recently). Not cool.

No matter how crazy things get around the house, I do have a little "pre-wifey" responsibility to make Nick's lunch everyday.  I've been near 'Riot Grrrl' territory with how I feel about the "housewife" stereotype, but this is different. I love to feel useful, like someone depends on me..especially when I get to try a  bunch of new recipes!  (Or make them up myself...).  Anyways, here's a favorite recipe of mine. Nick and I are pretty much obsessssssssed with French Toast. The perfect food. Syrupy, sweet, crunchy, toasty, warm, perfect with any kind of fruit topping one could create. I wanted to make a french toast that could double as sammy bread; something that would hold up to slices of cheese and fresh pastrami for him and some veggies and hummus for me. TA DA. Savory french toast was born.

Recipe here...

Savory French Toast
chloe r.

Makes 4 pieces
7 saltine crackers
Handful of cheese crackers, (ie Classic Goldfish, Cheese-Its, Cheese-Nips...)
Ziplock baggie
4 pieces bread
Margarine
Mixed italian spices
1 egg
1/4 c. milk
Fresh cracked pepper

This is incredibly easy...I was shocked about how little time it took to make the recipe up and THEN make it! LOOOOVE it. It's definitely a lunchbox classic.

Prep: Crush crush crush the saltines and cheesy crackers in the ziplock back to a med. fine powder. (Resembling bread crumbs is perfect.) Open the bag, add roughly 1 or 2 tablespoons of the Italian seasonings.  Shake the bag a little bit to mix. Pour the crumb and spice mixture out on a dinner plate.

After cracking the egg into a small bowl, add the milk and whisk together.  Add some of the pepper into the egg bath for flavor.  When your skillet is  good and hot, add some margarine to prevent any sticking and to cook the toast evenly. Dip your bread into the egg bath and then place on the plate of crumbs. Rub the crumbs over the egged bread to they stick and create an even coating. Then simply cook it up as you would french toast. Yum..I kind of want some right now...
