struggling through time

I really struggle with this look; I LOVE to see it on other people, but on myself? Ehhh...I'm not sure it really works. Ever had a...a...thing, like that? Something that you love to look at on others but just doesn't quite click with your style, personality, ect? UGH. The socks/heels combo just kills me...I'm pretty sure it just kills me.

Burberry ROCKED it. The ropey open-toe platforms in their fab neutral colors look AMAZIN' with the bunchy knit socks.. It looks COMFY, GRUNGY yet still SOPHISTICATED; a perfect combination of things I love.  But me? All I see is a combination of kittenish white socks and (my favorite) platform heels, not the combination of chic that I dream of. It kinda reminds me of my feet when I really don't have a whisper of a tan! This look just reminds me of my white toes, people, my very untanned toes.

Any suggestions?

majority influence

The weather; still cold, rainy, and windy. A pretty bad nightmare for a complicated hairdo or a dress. (Marilyn Monroe moment in that wind, I'll just say that...).  Doesn't it seem that I'm always complaining about the weather? Sorry, but this is really getting me down...I'm SUCH a fair-weather flyer.

With a soggy campus lawn and mud everywhere, boots were a must. When I say boots, I mean boots, with a certain catcall about them. That's how I felt all day! These knee-high black beauties kinda reminded me a bit of Julia Roberts in her 'Pretty Woman' days...except I wore pants, not fishnets...and I wasn't picked up by Richard Grere, or anyone else for that matter.

By the way, the movie KICK-ASS was INCREDIBLE! Hilarious nerd boy, (who is actually kinda cute. I think I have a weakness for both superheros and geeks, so 'Kevin'...aka...Kick-Ass...has it all.), meets crazy talented ninja girl. Its so cute and totally on-key about high school that it's almost disturbing. Oddly enough, it really does have you wondering if superheros exist...hmmm.

new acquisitions

This is terrible, but I know many of you can relate.  I have a confession...I really LOVE borrowing clothes from my sister. (I must watch what I reveal there, she may read this post!...).  Sometimes she does know what I borrow, (sometimes she doesn't); either way, its always satisfying and it basically DOUBLES my wardrobe with no moolah $pent.  How stinkin' cool is that?! Yeah? Yeah? Exactly...you know what I mean. You all do it too.

These are my favorite pieces so far from the ol' closet of hers...will I return them?, you ask? Hmmm..depends on how much I grow to love them. How much they want to join my happy-happy family of slack shorts, skinny jeans, random cartoon t-shirts, and the insanely high number of v-neck tees I've collected.  Collecting is a hobby...but 'stealing' from family is wayyy more fun. :)

Pictured: Denim dress/Vintage Eddie Bauer, From my grammie, used to be floor length, but now above-the-knee after a chop and a quick run through the sewing machine. Grey open vest/Xhiliration. Knubby knits/craving them in the spring winds. Floral micro-print/Vintage with a F21 belt. ALLL from sister. <3 you!

the sunshine sees her tie-dye

Today was GLORIOUS! Weather is good, finally! I couldn't wait to get out there to frolick around barefoot, take some photos, and make a bouquet of dandelions, tulips, and daffodils. (FAVORITES, YES!)

I first tripped up to Pullman, (with my sister! Listed to Cascada, Corrosion of Conformity, Jason Mraz, and T.I on the way),  to visit my Grammy in the hospital. Nothing serious, just reconstructive knee surgery and a few days of in-patient physical therapy and she'll be fiiine. Plus, I made her a really large, slightly obnoxious card with a cartoon of dancing me to lighten any spirits that need....lightening.  Basilio's for a lunch salad, and picked up some to d-i-e for bowtie and marinara for tonight's dinner.

Barefoot. Timer on my camera. Aviator sunnies. A green yard that is perfectly soft and totally too-long. A Starbucks green iced tea. Seeing that my Grandma was ok. Getting Mum a new laundry basket for Mother's Day. Fireflight concert tomorrow.
Not a bad day at all.

warm

This week has been crazy. The definition of crazy. Probably the craziest week I've had in a long time...(as you can probably tell from my lack of posts recently). Not cool.

No matter how crazy things get around the house, I do have a little "pre-wifey" responsibility to make Nick's lunch everyday.  I've been near 'Riot Grrrl' territory with how I feel about the "housewife" stereotype, but this is different. I love to feel useful, like someone depends on me..especially when I get to try a  bunch of new recipes!  (Or make them up myself...).  Anyways, here's a favorite recipe of mine. Nick and I are pretty much obsessssssssed with French Toast. The perfect food. Syrupy, sweet, crunchy, toasty, warm, perfect with any kind of fruit topping one could create. I wanted to make a french toast that could double as sammy bread; something that would hold up to slices of cheese and fresh pastrami for him and some veggies and hummus for me. TA DA. Savory french toast was born.

when two steps can't break puddles

A full week into April and the clouds still spell disaster.  I swear I'm not as sad or depressed as I look in the next picture...but the huge lack of sunshine IS making me pretty glum.  Pirate boots and a Gap denim shirt were the perfect combination to battle the cold draft that haunts the church. (And NO, I'm not referring to a ice-cold beer that floats through the building...ha. Get it? Beer? Cold draft? I TOTALLY got a chuckle out of that...).

Warm noodles with a touch of marinara and Cheerios on the side, (yes Cheerios. Just try it, man!), warmed me up perfectly.  Sunday manicure.  Morbid, by Wet N' Wild. I guess that could summarize the skyline right now. Soon I'll be folding my cardigan drawer, searching for the match to my odd white dandy-sock, and maybe making something vegan to munch. Got a new SLAMMIN' cookbook from the college library, Vegan With A Vengeance by Isa Chandra Moskowitz, (from The Post Punk Kitchen). . Seriously...very cool chick with a slammin' tofu scramble recipe.  mmmmmmmmmm yum.

she's got the look

This is my FAVORITE look right now...I just about g-a-s-p-e-d, *GASPED* when I saw it on her amazing site, Cupcakes and Cashmere.  Emily, (as many know in the blogesphere), is amazing at blending shopping with style with food and happiness that nothing else compares to..

At least, nothing I know of right now. Tomorrow's weather had BETTER be nice; sunny, at least! I can't wait to move into floral dresses, cinchy belts, no worries. The inner hippee-love child in me is making a comeback....

What Emily's wearing: Madewell dress and belt, Hue tights, Vintage bracelet, YSL platforms...
See Emily's post, Fields of Gold.

Seriously! The weather is still TERRIBLE. Spring? Bah..I am now laughing in the face and mention of Spring...this season is simply just NOT existing this year...

I made up for the lack of spring-y weather with one of my first floral prints of the year.  Black rayon shirt with the most delicate pink blossoms. Oddly enough, even though the fabric is so thin to the touch and virtually sheer, the shirt had great shape; I never thought I could get the perfect hourglass figure with a top thinner than my bedsheets...

Had another interview today for a potential job that I'm REALLY dreaming for....oddly enough...it went blissful. It was actually a highlight of my day! I've never said that before - my interviews usually go something more un-blissful:

Interviewer: Do you mow lawns?
Me: Yes.
Interviewer: Do you know how to mow lawns?
Me: Yes...
Interviewer: Do you want to mow my lawn on Monday night?
Me: Um..sure.
(But all the while I'm thinking, "Damn! I'm going to miss Kell on Earth! Ugh.")

That is just about the only kind of job interview I ever get...EXCEPT FOR NOW! YES!
Anways, the hardest part of this interview was deciding what to wear. Heels? Skirt? Look professional? Look comfortable?  But...when you've got SNOW reports in MARCH, it just seems that nothing in this world rings true anymore.

Xhilaration skinny slacks, ROMY/floral top, thrifted gold plate belt, Love Culture/wedges,

jewel tones

Do accessories make the woman?  Does the combination of eye-popping outfits and perfect jewel-things show strength?  If they did, I'm thinking that these beautiful, (and totally fake), earrings would probably belong to a queen. ALL HAIL QUEEN BARGAIN-HUNTER. Well, they definitely make ME feel like a queen...that's for sure. I can't get over the fact that I found them in a Target clearance basket for $3.74....

I havn't quite figured out the perfect outfit to wear these with. Something simple, (jeans and a T), to make the jewels pop? Or something sophisticated and classy, (skirt, dolman, and cardigan), to envelop them within the outfit? Or just some punky tee and some beat up Converse, (a usual uniform), to make them seem like "no biggie?"...

Any ideas?

Friday, April 2

Like I said yesterday, the weather has been royally awwwful. My mum and I have resorted to picking some of her flowers, vasing them, then sprinting back into the warm house to try to make the house feel a bit more 'spring-y'. It kinda works, it kinda makes me feel lame for not having done a single worthy outside-activity of Spring Break. No bike riding, no skateboarding, no long walks to goodness-knows-where...nothing.

Cooking always helps warm up the house, (literally, our convection oven is our back-up source of heat -maybe that's how it was with Sylvia Plath??...), so I nabbed a great recipe for Boiled Raisin Bread from the lovely Recipes.com. These little cakes are moist, hearty, and vegan - something that I'd love to try to incorporate more into my cooking and diet. My only animal products now are non-fat and plain yogurt and cottage cheese and milk in oatmeal...it sometimes seems that a vegan lifestyle is creeping up on me...

Found TWO MORE great blogs yesterday - MAN. I absolutely love finding a new and inspirational site; almost better than finding a great deal! Not that I would know, I havn't been shopping in far far far toooo long. :) What IS shopping, again? Ha. Stupid hailstorms. YES that's right, we have been experiencing some ridiculous hail, wind, rain, you name it.

AMAZING new blogs: Sterling STYLE.  Fashion Degaine.  Gypsy-Diaries.

I might need to bake some bread this afternoon to make myself feel better...
